A Great Time in Maritime Canada...PBR Canada Road Trip
Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:23
Home from what seemed like a lifetime on Canada's East Coast, when PBR Canada ventured to Halifax, NS and Charlottetown, PEI.
Two HUGE Events with Pyro, Video, Glitz and Glamour...matching 35 amazing bull riders from across Canada and the United States against the "Rankest Bulls in the Industry" from across Canada.
7 Bull Contractors shipped in just short of 60 Bulls...with BC, Alta, SK, ON, and QC represented.
The Shows were huge, and the afterparties were amazing...both at establishments and hotel rooms...
Thanksgiving Sunday was stellar with 60 of us going to our PEI hosts' estate, where he, his family and neighbours served us Turkey, Seafood, and a feast fit for a king...making the time away from our families seem like we were with them.
I got to work in part with the 6-time CPRA Announcer of the Year...pretty remarkable...his build-up to the last bull had the crowd doing the slow-to-fast clap without prompting...
I had the fun job of interviewing, doing the "best seats" contests, and rocking out...which was stellar.
In Halifax, we watched an 8 year-old bull, Another Cricket of Biestrom Bucking Bulls, continue his unridden streak...and in Charlottetown, Cory Melton, of TX, rode the bull in the chute-out for the highest score of the two events, and the Bull's first qualified ride.  Melton had a stellar event...winning go-round 1, bonus on the chute-out bull, 2nd or 3rd in go-round 2, bonus for leading going into the short-round, then pay-day for winning the entire event.
It should have rocketed him deep into the top 45.  He won the "Cup"...which I have sitting beside me right now...
It was pretty wild...pitch black arena...spot lights shining down on the PBR Canada President, Rocky Boots Rep and me, as Melton walked out to fireworks as his name was announced, then I asked him what he thought of  the event...he replied, I said something about, "your champion..."...he raised the cup over his head...and then boom...boom...all the pyro went off over our heads.  It was a really cool moment to be apart of.
Other than getting lost everytime I went anywhere in Halifax and missing my plane home, it was the best trip of my life...oh, and the weather is so perfect, I want to move there...just too bad they don't rodeo 10 months a year...
Back to the grindstone, and awaiting the next event!
